Constitution Day (Grundlovsdag) on June 5 is the closest thing Denmark has to a national day. Since the Constitution was introduced in 1849, the day has been marked with speeches, public meetings, and national celebrations.

Originally, Constitution Day events were shared gatherings featuring speeches in honor of the king, the Constitution, and the nation. From the 1870s onward, political parties began holding separate events and using the day to promote their political views.

Although Constitution Day became more political, it also remained a public celebration, often including refreshments, music, and dances after the official ceremonies.
