Pakistan’s Independence Day Celebrated at the Embassy in Copenhagen

Pakistan’s Independence Day on 14 August 2026 was commemorated with great dignity and warmth at the Embassy of Pakistan in Copenhagen, where more than 300 guests gathered for the traditional flag-hoisting ceremony. It was a particular honour to welcome H.E. Maja Derrous Mortensen, Ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan, accompanied by her husband, Simo Derrous. Their presence added special significance to the occasion and reflected the warm, longstanding, and friendly relations between Denmark and Pakistan.

H.E. Shoaib Sarwar, Ambassador of Pakistan to Denmark, hoisted the national flag to the sound of Pakistan’s national anthem and warmly welcomed the guests. As part of the official ceremony, messages from the President, Prime Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan were read out.

Ali Sattar, Deputy Head of Mission, read the Independence Day message of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, who extended his warmest and most heartfelt felicitations to Pakistanis at home and across the world.

In his message, the Prime Minister paid tribute to the historic struggle for Pakistan’s independence and honoured the vision and leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Muhammad Iqbal, and the many leaders, workers, and generations whose determination and sacrifices transformed the dream of an independent homeland into reality.

The celebration in Copenhagen was not only a proud commemoration of Pakistan’s independence, but also a meaningful expression of unity, friendship, mutual respect, and the enduring bonds between Pakistan and Denmark.

Sincere appreciation is extended to the more than 250 guests whose presence made the occasion particularly memorable.
